What is Go?
Go is an open-source programming language, invented in 2007 and made public in 2009 to solve issues that developers at Google were having with C++.
This language has proven advantageous from the start, having the same performance as C but being easier to maintain than Java. It also needs no virtual machine and no warm-up period since Go doesn’t require an interpreter. Go can also be used for a wide range of applications. One of its main advantages is its scalability potential.
Who uses it?
Many household names are using this programming language to develop their products. This includes Netflix, Paypal, Salesforce, and Twitter. Popular programming applications like Docker, Kubernetes, and CoreOS are also based on it.
What is the current trend?
Go has been steadily growing in popularity in the past few years, and it has now gained 4th place as the most popular language used in GitHub repositories. The same survey shows that the amount of pull requests in this programming language is growing steadily, nearly reaching the amount of Java.
According to the 2019 Stack Overflow survey (mentioned in our previous blog post about Trends in Programming Languages), Go is the third most wanted language in development right now.
